The Marcy ME-708, also known as the Marcy Upright Mag Cycle, is a compact, lightweight, but an excellent exercise resource.

It’s a predecessor to the popular ME-709 we had reviewed earlier, and expectedly, there’re plenty of resemblances between these two models.

Though ME-708 lacks the muscular challenges often afforded by the larger, more expensive exercise bikes, it does provide an opportunity to burn calories and help to keep your muscles toned.

Generally, I find this model a perfect option for individuals who are just beginning, and for those with a small living space.

Better yet, it’s the low entry price that makes this unit easily competitive.

And despite the budget tag, it’s a performer, and it favorably competes with some of the top rated upright bikes with a high admission price point.

But what’s unique about this bike?

We shall soon find out in our Marcy ME-708 review below.

What Makes Marcy ME-708 So Awesome?

1) Durability

For such an entry-level bike, we were surprised by the durability element.

The 14 gauge steel tubing frame on the ME-708 is long-lasting, and it doesn’t skimp on the performance.

The steel frame is further coated with a powder finish that enhances the overall strength by preventing wearing out by elements such as rust.

Expectedly, however, the housing of the drive system is designed from plastic-for the price; it was not a surprise.

The good news is, the PVC material is highly durable, and though I prefer metal, this plastic construction is equally sturdy.

2) Magnetic Resistance

Sporting 8 preset levels of magnetic resistance,  it becomes easy for fitness enthusiasts to customize and select a fitness resistance that suits their needs.

Sure, I’ve to admit these levels don’t offer enough challenge resistance for the experienced athletes, but here’s the thing, ME-708 isn’t built for the pros, but rather for the casual riders.

3) Comfort

Comfort is quite a subjective matter, but if the reviews are anything to go by, ME-708 is quite comfortable.

Comfort on the bike is manifested in several ways, but the most notable one is the presence of an oversized padded seat that helps to promote comfort, especially on your backside.

Equally, the handlebars are padded for increased comfort.

Generally, the entire ME-708 set up is built with comfort in mind, and it will not easily wear you down even after consistent use.

Unique Features That Make Marcy ME-708 Interesting

Frame

Durability and toughness are the name of the game with the Marcy ME-708.

As we had indicated earlier, the steel frame construction is solid and durable too.

A manifestation of the overall strength of the frame is the generous weight capacity of 300 pounds, which ties up with some of the higher-end models in the market.

Sturdy

Despite coming in with at a measly 41 pounds, and a compact footprint, the ME-708 is surprisingly stable.

The stability on this bike is largely because of the steel tube frame, alongside the stabilizers that hold everything reasonably steady while exercising.

When in use, you are less likely to wobble, and even when standing, though I don’t recommend it, it’ll only move a little bit.

However, if your floor is a little uneven, you might find the bike moving from side to side, but it’s easy to sort this issue by turning the rear stabilizers end caps for balancing. Alternatively, you can place a rug or exercise mat under it.

Pedals

The pedals, like the overall bike componentry, exude excellence, and sturdiness.

While there’s nothing premium on the pedals, I was impressed by the presence of the grips and straps that helped to keep my feet in place, meaning I didn’t have to worry about slipping off.

However, as I found out, the adjustment of the plastic straps can be a little tough at first until the plastic softens up a bit.

The good news is, you don’t have to adjust the straps every time you use the bike- if no one else has moved their location, you simply need to slip them on your feet, and off you go.

Handlebars

Unfortunately, the handlebars are not adjustable, and their angles are static, which can, at times, result in an awkward grip.

However, their positioning is unique in that they allow flexibility and normally let users take different riding stances such as leaning forward or stretching for a more comfortable experience.

Either way, it’s not the best approach for comfort, but the admission price, this wasn’t quite much of a surprise.

On the upside, however, the handlebars are covered with soft foam that makes them easy to hold, and your hands are likely to slip even if they’re sweaty.

Drive Type

Marcy ME-708 utilizes a belt drive system that is not only quite, but also low maintenance.

Better yet, the system, alongside the flywheel, is covered, and this goes a long way to keep the dirt and sweat from jamming your machine. More importantly, it promotes the safety element and will prevent your kids or pets from getting injured.

When in use, the belt drive delivers a relatively smooth pedaling experience.

Though it delivers low impact exercises, the higher levels of resistance will normally get a bit rougher.

What We Liked About Marcy ME-708

  • Simple Console: The basic and frills-free console is an extension of the ME-708 modesty.
  • Basic Console: The console is rather basic, and it measures about 2.25 inches, with a single navigation button for ease of use.
  • Noiseless Operation: The belt drive system on the ME-708 delivers a quiet operation, ideal where silence is required.
  • Smooth workout session: Besides the noiseless operation, the belt system delivers a smooth workout session free from bumps.
  • Easy Storage: The storage of the ME-708 is a faff because the unit is compact, lightweight, and hs transport wheels.

What We Didn’t Like About Marcy ME-708

  • No heart rate sensor: The absence of a heart rate sensor is a deal-breaker, but fortunately, you can purchase an external Heart Rate Monitor.

Bottomline & Verdict

Marcy ME-708 is an ideal option for anyone looking for a budget-priced piece of fitness equipment that offers low-impact aerobic workout.

Along with promoting weight loss by burning calories, this fitness bike can go a long way to improving your cardio health and toning your muscles.
